by Udo Schmidt (Author) Door Material Yes you can, edge finishing depends on building material. Solid wood nothing extra required. Plywood/melamine will need edgebanding applied, which is extremely simple. Buy a cheap clothes iron or use an old one (don’t reuse to iron clothes after) it can get messy on iron. Iron on matching edgebanding available at the big boxstores. Note it is easier if you buy it a little wider than you need because you will need to trim either way. The trimming may be done multiple ways, the least precise way is using an exacto knife/utility knife (works well for melamine i wouldn’t try it with plywood though. I saw a little handheld trimmer in both double edge and single edge for at most 10$ and thats Canadian price. I would suggest this method. Then if you own a router you can use a flush trim bit. Good luck on your project.
The 48 hour drying time on the doors, was that per coat? Or did you apply both coats then dry 48 hours per side?

Best New Products Massachusetts 10 / 14 Car Window Repair 4 years ago This is a complete DIY kitchen. We made the cabinets, shelves and the countertops ourselves. The majority of the supplies are from the Home Depot. We spent less than $3500 even with mid-range priced appliances and fixtures. I designed the open cabinets so they would be durable and easy to build. I know that open shelves are not to everyone’s taste, but I like that they encourage me to get nicer stuff. When I had closed cabinets, I would collect junky, plastic clutter that could be easily hidden behind doors and drawers. With these open shelves, I focus on getting nicer home goods that look great displayed. For the few, unsightly products and items I have, I built or recycled storage containers for them like the ammo cans I painted and dip-dyed.

Small Kitchen Cabinets New Thank you SO much for this posting– it gave me the courage I need to commit to my own IKEA installation. Haven’t done it yet, but I’m not nearly as scared as I was! 😉 Question for you: What is on either side of your dishwasher that supports the countertop? I have a similar situation, but instead of a wall I have a high cabinet planned, and I also have the farmhouse style sink that rests on the counter on the other side. Did you put in extra pieces? Please explain! Thank you!

Your kitchen is so pretty and the instructions/tips were very helpful! I hope you can answer a last minute question abut the corner wall cabinet. Contractors are here and it doesn’t look like the 15″ door is going to cover the sides of the cabinet frame. Did you do something special to get that door to fit across the cabinet frame? I don’t know why it seems off here – other than I am so exhausted I can’t think straight! Thank you!

Product Index Label the doors and drawer faces: As you remove each piece, use a marker to number the door or drawer face according to your diagram. Chris and Lexi like to number cabinet doors in the groove where the hinge fits into, then cover it with tape. (Drawer faces can be numbered on the back, which gets hidden by the rest of the drawer when it’s reassembled.)
Glossary There is always a kind of debate between if you start with the upper cabinets or with the lower ones. Loved the tips.
baby room Together, the IKEA rep and I logged into the IKEA planning software to look at my plan. He reviewed everything to make sure it all made sense. He even had a few really helpful suggestions about the design, and I made some minor changes on the fly based on his input. He was also able to help me add some finishing pieces to the order that I didn’t realize I needed. This guy knew what he was doing and gave me confidence about the whole process.

Contest Winners But, it ultimately turned out to be the best spot for the fridge. It just frees up so much space in the kitchen and it makes good use of what would otherwise be dead space. Crawling over the fridge to get to the back isn’t that bad, it gives us another surface to put things on, and it can even serve as an additional seat in a pinch.
If the corners are out of square, or if either of the end walls is not plumb, we will need to adjust the location of the base cabinets. A corner that’s only slightly greater than 90 degrees usually means we can put the back of the corner cabinet up against one wall—usually the longer wall—and make up for the out-of-square condition at the back of the countertop on the short run of cabinets. If the corner angle is slightly less than 90 degrees—or if the end wall is leaning in at the top—we will still try to place the back of the cabinet against the long wall, but we’ll need to hold it in from the short wall enough to make sure the wall cabinets align with the base cabinets on the long wall and that the cabinet fronts on the short wall can be aligned without having to shave the drywall.

By TCQ • 1330 Items Somewhere along the way in my internet research, I discovered RTA cabinets. I’d never liked the fact that my Home Depot cabinets seemed so cheaply built with laminate insides and no shelves in some of the base cabinets. After watching some assembly videos, I decided I could probably do it.
Measure for base cabinets. With all the base cabinets installed, replace the doors and drawers. When hanging a door, install the top hinges first and then the lower hinges. Test the swing of the doors and adjust the hinges as necessary.
Cream Shaker Hi there, Caramel Walnut (153) 5If your cabinet setup includes a corner wall cabinet, install it first, with a helper. Drill pilot holes through the sturdy cabinet back or its support rail and into the wall studs. Screw the cabinet to the wall using two screws that are long enough to penetrate the studs by at least 1 1/2 inches, and then check the top for level and the front edge for plumb. To correct the position, back off the screws, tap shims behind the cabinet at stud locations, and then drive the screws home and add several more into each stud for secure attachment.

Position the corner cabinets 1/4 in. away from the vertical positioning lines. Shim the base until the cabinet top is even with the horizontal leveling line and then level and shim the cabinet front to back (Photo 2). If there’s a gap between the wall and the cabinet back (the wall isn’t exactly plumb or straight), slip in shims and run screws into the studs through the cabinet back about 1 in. down from the top (see Photo 8). After all the base cabinets are set, score the shims with a utility knife and snap them off even with the cabinet top.
